First, the TPC-C benchmark doesn’t have a performance/core metric yet that’s your only argument? TPC-C measures throughput performance, response time performance and price/performance, all of which are superior with SPARC T5-8 vs Power7 and Power6 systems. While IBM continues to only talk about per core performance (probably because IBM charges everything per cvore) they’ve completely lost sight of response times, throughput performance and especially price performance. You claim that Power780 with just 16 x cores has 2.2x better performance per core yet its response times are 3-7x slower and 7x slower throughput? Hows that? Kind of like comparing a bike to a hybrid car and saying the bike has better efficiency! And where is a fully configured non-clustered Power780 system? Performance/core doesn’t scale to 64-cores? or 128-cores like the SPARC T5-8? And why are there no Power7+ TPC-C nor TPC-H nor SPECjbb2013 results if Power is so superior?

Most will be dependent upon the installation and software. You’d have to check for the firewall you are running, which depends on the OS also, update the host file, set the loopback address (Unix/Windows, same) and the DNS, which again depends upon your environment.
Just cannot do a step-by-step for every possible environment. Metalink will invariably have documentation which may assist.
Cheers, Gary.

4 comments worth noting beyond the simple stuff, such as a bad configuration, locked TDP client account, or the server being down.......

1. Be certain to setup more than one channel in your RMAN script. Some parties recommend 2 channels; I prefer 3.

2. kernel tunables using your OS coupled with network tuning within TSM may be necessary. For example, be certain to employ use of jumbo frames. Be certain to set the MTU to the largest value your network admins advise you to use. Be certain you have enough bandwidth and low packet loss/congestion during backups.

3. Too many concurrent TSM backup and/or restore operations can create this issue (see [2]).

4. The TSM documentation for RMAN scripts in APPENDIX A are lousy. See my example script below.

run {
  allocate channel ch1 type 'sbt_tape' parms
        'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64/tdpo.opt)';
  allocate channel ch2 type 'sbt_tape' parms
        'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64/tdpo.opt)';
        allocate channel ch3 type 'sbt_tape' parms
        'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64/tdpo.opt)';
        backup incremental level 0 database
        filesperset 1
        format 'sid_backup_%T_%s.%U'
        include current controlfile;
  backup
        (archivelog
        from time 'sysdate-7' until time 'sysdate'
        all delete input
        format 'sid_backup_arch_%T_%s.%U'
